Any players who did not get their pictures taken last week should report to the field Monday at 7:15am. This will be the last opportunity for players to get their picture into the queue before they are released to Pointstreak.

FRIDAY GAMES CANCELLED

Today’s downpour flooded the field at WCC today so all of tomorrow’s NYSL games have been cancelled due to unplayable conditions. Extra games will be added to the schedule the week of July 11 to make up this week’s missed games.

NYSL PLAYERS TO REPORT

All NYSL players should report to the field at 7:15 am to complete paperwork and uniform assignment. Games will commence when this is completed. Tomorrow’s schedule features a tripleheader between the Empires and the Capitols.

TRYOUT IS SUCCESSFUL

The three league tryout held June 14-15 produced players for each of the NYSL’s entries in the Can-Am, Pecos and NYSL. Kent Worthington, RHP, and Mike Mullen, RHP, were signed to the NYSL Federals who are playing the Can-Am League schedule in 2011. They will be active for tonight’s doubleheader against Pittsfield. Seven players were chosen for the Carlsbad Bats and eleven were ticketed for the NYSL. The Carlsbad players will spend a week in the NYSL before heading to New Mexico.

REGISTRATION CLOSED FOR TOMORROW’S TRYOUT

Registration is now closed for tomorrow’s three league tryout. There wil be no onsite registraton. Players who have not had their application accepted should not show up at the field because they will not be allowed to try out.

NYSL OPENS SPRING TRAINING TOM0RROW

Eric Pierzchala, acting NYSL director, will conduct the first spring training session tomorrow at Westchester Community College at 10am. Out of town and local players will join him.

DOUBLEHEADER POSTPONED DUE TO FIELD CONDITIONS

Today’s doubleheader between the New York Federals and the Pittsfield Colonals was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. Bad weather has raked the Berkshires the last few days. The games will be made up at a later date.

ABER RELIEVED OF DUTIES

John Aber, manager of the Carlsbad Bats, has been relieved of his duties, effectively immediately. The Carlsbad team is off to an 0-23 start. Replacing Aber is Ryan Powell, a three year professional veteran, who had been catching for the Bats after being assigned to the team out of spring training by the New York Federals. “John worked extremely hard under difficult conditions,” said Jay Acton of the NYSL, “but in fairness to the Pecos League we need to field a more competitive team. Ryan is a solid baseball guy and we feel we can make the changes necessary to get us to the next level. He impressed everyone with his leadership during our recent preparation for the Can-Am season.”"
