YOUNG PITCHING FOR SEMINOLE COUNTY

Justin Young, RHP, Wichita Wingnuts, has joined the roster of the Seminole County Naturals and will be pitching in the newly-formed Florida Winter Baseball League. He becomes the second former NYSL player in the league and he also becomes one of 25 American Association players on the rosters of the league’s four teams.

SAFETY FIRST: NYSL ADOPTS RAWLINGS S100

Deputy NYSL Commissioner Robert Acton has announced that the league will use the new Rawlings S100 batting helmet next season.The helmet has been designed to protect hitters from fastballs up to 100 mph. The helmets are made from the same kind of polypropolene which is used in bike helmets. “Not only will hitters have to wear them but also base coaches, ” said Acton. “we’re determined to create the saftest environment on the playing field that we can.”

PITCHERS & CATCHERS TRYOUT ADDED

VON HAYES NAMED RIVERSHARKS MANAGER

Von Hayes, longtime Philadelphia Phillies outfielder, has been named the new manager of the Camden Riversharks (Atl). Hayes’ entire Major League Career encompassed 12 seasons.

AMAR IS NOW A NATURAL

Adam Amar, 1B, is going to play for the Seminole County Naturals of the newly-formed Florida Winter Baseball League. Amar, who was the 2007 MVP of the NYSL, also played independent ball with the defunct Reno Silver Sox (GBL). He spent the last two seasons playing for affiliates of the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays.
