PITCHERS & CATCHERS TRYOUT ADDED

The NYSL will hold a Pitchers & Catchers ONLY  tryout  for the 2010 season on Saturday, November 14 @ 8am at Indoor Baseball Long Island NY at 30 Beechwood Avenue, Port Washington, NY. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS TRYOUT but players MUST preregister  by calling 718-278-4259.

NEW MEANING TO HOST FAMILY

Tonight on ESPN ’s E:60 newsmagazine  watch what Josh Faiola of the Frontier League did — living and working in an assisted living facility for the summer. Congrats to Josh. VON HAYES NAMED RIVERSHARKS MANAGER

Von Hayes, longtime Philadelphia Phillies outfielder, has been named the new manager of the Camden Riversharks (Atl). Hayes’ entire Major League Career encompassed 12 seasons.

AMAR IS NOW A NATURAL

Adam Amar, 1B, is going to play for the Seminole County Naturals of the newly-formed Florida Winter Baseball League. Amar, who was the 2007 MVP of the NYSL, also played independent ball with the defunct Reno Silver Sox (GBL). He spent the last two seasons playing for affiliates of the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays.

THOMPSON TO WHITE SOX

Tommy Thompson, who won two titles as manager of the Windy City Thunderbolts (FL), will be joining the Chicago White Sox as a roving instructor.

BROOK NEW RASCALS SKIPPER

Steve Brook, who has had a longtime association with River City (FL) franchise as both as a player and coach, has been named the team’s new manager. Brook was the team’s bench coach and pitching coach previously.

BASEBALL AMERICA HONORS THREE NICK BELMONTE CHOICES ON TOP PROSPECT LIST

Nick Belmonte, superscout for the Independent Leagues, placed three of his signings on the Baseball America Indy Top Prospect List.  At #4 was Ben Paxton, RHP, of Western Kentucky University who played last summer with the Evansville Otters (FL). Paxton went 1-2 in 27 relief appearances with a sparkling 1.12 ERA. At #5 was Tim Brown, RHP, out of Pittsburg State, who was 5-1 with a 2.59 ERA for the Lincoln Saltdogs (AA). And finishing at #9 was Stephen Fox, RHP, of Hofstra who went 0-3 with a 3.98 ERA for the Sussex Skyhawks (Can-Am). Congrats to Nick!

TRYOUT LOCATION AND TIME CHANGED DUE TO WEATHER

The NYSL tryout scheduled for 10 am on Sunday October 18 has been moved indoors because of the possibility of impending bad weather. The tryout will now be held at Frozen Ropes, 300 Executive Boulevard, Elmsford, NY 10523. PLEASE NOTE THE TRYOUT TIME IS NOW – 1 PM. Any questions please call 347-697-5357. This tryout is open only to preregistered players.
