ACES CLAIM CBL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Alexandria Aces claimed the CBL Championship Saturday night by completing a two game sweep of the Big Bend Cowboys in their best of three series. In doing so the Aces won their third league championship in four years.

OBAL GETS FIRST PRO HITS

Kyle Obal, C, Washington (FL), got his first two pro hits last night as the Wild Things downed the Midwest Sliders 8-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. He is now batting .286.

DUCEY UPENDED AGAIN

John Ducey, RHP, Evansville (FL), found himself on the short end of a 3-2 score even though he pitched a complete game against Windy City. Ducey, who has pitched three complete games this season, is now 3-10 with 5.13 ERA. He has pitched over 100 innings for the Otters. Evansville’s season record in 28-60.

PAXTON IS GEM OUT OF INDY PRO SHOWCASE

He’s not an ex-NYSL player but a tip of the hat must go to Nick Belmonte and Dave Marcon for uncovering Brad Paxton, RHP, Evansville (FL), at their Detroit showcase this past June. Paxton has been literally lights out for the
for the Otters. In 24 relief appearances he is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.24. Opponents are batting .225 against him.

CAHILL SIGNED BY ROCKFORD

Phil Cahill, C, has been signed by Rockford (FL). Cahill was a 2009 NYSL All Star. He is also a recent graduate of Siena College. Cahill joined the Rockford team on Saturday night and is looking forward to his first action.

FRANCO LIGHTS IT UP

Andrew Franco, DH, Traverse City (FL), went four for four last night with two RBIs as the Beach Bums set back Kalamazoo 4-2. In 93 at bats Franco is hitting .363 with four home runs and eighteen RBIs. UPDATE: He went two for four the next night raising his average to .368.

CRESPI SCORES WINNER IN ELEVENTH

Ryan Crespi, OF, Sussex (Can-Am), scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eleventh as the Skyhawks edged Worcester 4-3. Crespi has hit .260 in 81 games for Sussex this year and also stolen 22 bases.

ROBINSON GOES ON DL

Fraser Robinson, LHP, Brockton (Can-Am), has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 21. Robinson had been 7-4 with 4.29 ERA in 86 innings for the Rox this year.

NH LOCKED OUT OF PARK

The American Defenders of New Hampshire were locked out of their ballpark last night in Nashua, NH. As a result the game they were scheduled to play was forfeited. The lockout stemmed from a rent dispute with the city of Nashua. Reportedly, the team will play the rest of its Can-league schedule on the road.

O’NEILL CAPS EXCELLENT SEASON

Corey O’Neill, 1B, Texarkana (CBL), capped an excellent season for the Gunslingers this weekend and finished with a .329 batting average which was good enough for 6th in the league. He also led the league in doubles with 19, was third in hits with 69 and fifth in RBIs with 43. An everyday stalwart he played in all 57 of his team’s games.
