McCOY CONTINUES HOT START

Ross McCoy, OF, Rockford (FL), is off to a flying start, hitting .361 in the team’s first nine games. McCoy leads the team in extra base hits with eight and RBIs with ten. McCoy played in the NYSL in 2007.

STANNY GETS SAVE FOR ACES

Zach Staniewicz, RHP, Alexandria (CBL), got his first save of the season as the Aces outlasted the Bay Area Toros in 11 innings. The Aces scored twice in the top of the eleventh and Stanny came on to record a scoreless bottom of the eleventh.

WHIGHAM IN GOOD OUTING FOR DIABLOS

Dave Whigham, RHP, El Paso (AA), pitched 6.2 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs for the Diablos last night. Although striking out seven and walking three, Whigham was not involved in the decision. The Diablos did manage to squeak by Shreveport-Bossier, 3-2.

CRESPI AGAIN

Ryan Crespi, OF, Sussex (Can-Am), had a second big night, going two for four with two RBIs, as the Skyhawks beat the Brockton Rox 11-3. In his first two games Crespi is now hitting .500.

YOUNG AIDS WINGNUTS

Justin Young, RHP, Wichita (AA), has a 1.50 ERA in four relief appearances. Opponents are batting just .158 against him. The Wingnuts lead the AA with an 11-2 record. Young pitched in the NYSL in 2007

MAZUREK ACTIVATED FROM DL

Matt Mazurek, OF, Rockford (FL), who began the season on the disabled list as he recovered from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, has been activated. Mazurek, who played with Riverhawks last year, hit .270 and drove in 30 runs. He played in the NYSL in 2007.

CRESPI HELPS SUSSEX IN OPENER

The Can-Am season got underway last night and Ryan Crespi, OF, Sussex, helped the defending champs start the campaign on the right foot. Crespi went two for four with an RBI as Sussex topped Brockton 6-1. Crespi played in the NYSL in 2007.

WONG SIGNED BY AMARILLO

Andrew Wong, 3B, Amarillo (ULB), has been resigned by the team he played for last year. In 82 games Wong hit .282 for the Dillas who won the ULB championship. Wong played in the NYSL in 2007.

LEDBETTER: SECOND SCORELESS PERFORMANCE

Grant Ledbetter, RHP, Edmonton (GBL), has now pitched 5.1 innings in relief without giving up an earned run. Ledbetter pitched in the NYSL in 2008.

GAGNE JOINS CAPITALES

Eric Gagne, RHP, has signed with Quebec (Can-Am). The 2003 NL Cy Young Award winner has 187 career MLB saves. Gagne, who broke in with the LA Dodgers in 1999, is now 33 years old. This is a homecoming for Gagne who will be pitching in the province where he grew up. According to Yahoo, the Capitales plan to use Gagne as a starter.
