Hideki Irabu, RHP, former NY Yankees pitcher, has signed with the Long Beach Armada (GBL) to see if he can restart his Major League career.
Irabu won two World Series Championships with Yanks in the 90s. Irabu last appeared in the Big Leagues with the Texas Rangers in 2002. He is now 39 years old.

NYSL INVITES TO GO OUT SHORTLY
April 26, 2009Deputy Commissioner Robert Acton reports that tryout invitations for the 2009 season will be soon be sent to eligible fourth year college
seniors. Invitations must be accepted and returned by June 15 or the player’s place will be passed to the next name on the list. Over 400 applications for the 50 available slots have been received already.

April 15, 2009Brian Villalobos, RHP, for the Gateway Grizzlies (FL), was killed
this week in a dune buggy crash. Mark “The Bird” Fidrych, an entertaining RHP with Detroit Tigers in the 70s, was killed in a farm accident. And Harry Kalas, longtime Phillies broadcaster and NFL Films narrator, passed away while preparing for a Nats game in Washington. We shall miss all of them.
MAYCOCK TRADED TO GATEWAY
April 11, 2009Dan Maycock, INF, was traded by the River City Rascals (FL) to the Gateway Grizzlies. Maycock played in the NYSL in 2007.
NICK ADENHART: IN MEMORIAM
April 10, 2009Nick Adenhart, 22, a pitcher for the Angels, was killed in a crash that involved an allegedly drunk driver. Our condolences to his family and the entire Angels organization.
